SO.....First day in the College---------------------------------------------
First Class--Supriya mAAm-English-Intro Class-Nothing Spectacular to write about, apart from d fact dat i was really nervous with the prospect of giving my introduction(which consisted of MyName,From this City,Passed out from this college) .
It was the following class which did set the tempo.PKM Sir-Maths Class...Frenetic pace.....Loads of Questions....he set a precedent which i cudn't imitate for the following four years. Was asked d solution to a certain Laplace(a topic most oders seemed at home)...cudnt answer...thank God wasnt reprimanded for that......he always likes to keep everyone on their toes.
Later that week..went to our Chemistry Lab which we couldn't find out in the first go....and were later whisked away by a very thin looking.....Senior perhaps!!(Oooooo....First Signs of Ragging at sight......) only to realize later that he was our Chemistry Sir.
Biswajit Sir seemed pretty unsuave and finicky in his mannerisms. He asked us to write 10 experiments with a 'here and now' tone...terrified with the prospect of writing around 20 pages there..we started in our never ending persuit.Later he revamped his own orders and asked us to write later....something he does far too often. The chemistry Lab was called 'Bond's Den' by our seniors, named after it's infamous habitant.
It was the ED class i was most scared to attend(oweing to my awful drawing skills)...but was made very comfortable, thanx to a certain DibyaJyotiSmrutiRanjan Deo.He kept my mind pre-occupied with continuous pep-talk..he was my first real acquaintance in the college.
That was the class in which i bonded with Sudhanshu for the first time as well....he alwaz use to listen to both of us quietly and speak only when he seemed sure about something...(he never bluffed..and that is precisely what costed him an 'O' in the Chemistry Lab). He seemed pretty hapless in those situation as well(which was the trait i was looking for to initiate a friendship),so i decided to partner him in the college...I asked him 2 sit by my side one day and found v were never separated for the whole year.....some intrusion by Smarajeet excluded...:)..Things would only have worsened hadn't our branches separated us...with the likes of Chandan,Karthik
,Nihar,Bhakti and some others taking note of each and every step of ours....
The most enjoyable part of a college day for me, was when we used to wait for our bus to take us home....dat was wen i saw a guy keeping everyone in tatters with his weird jokes & hysterical mannerisms:).....i didn't really find them funny then, nor do i now....but Ballu has never shied away from trying.....:)..he's someone without whom i cudn't have opened-up to the extend i eventually did...thanx for carrying me along,i know u cud have got a better & more active college life had u deserted me for someone else.....:)
We day-scholars use to sit in front of the workshop lab and listen to Abhay's monologues in a variety of topics...ranging from Chandan's versatile talent to Nihar's 'i know everything' attitude....from extremist viewpoints in politics to uniform civil code...:)..I had a feeling of facing hard time during the placement time if i happen to be in the same group as him in the GD round.....:(
Now coming to Ragging, we were fortunate not to face any of it's severe form during our tenure. That i would credit most to the fact that we were smart enough to act dumb in front of our seniors, who after a decent try gave up on us as dey soon realized ,der were better things to do than to run after us.I was once called inside a bus as they wanted to 'Rag' me,but i found them talking more than me which contradicts the basic trait of Ragging...:)
So after toiling hard for about 4 months came the semesters......followed by the results....It was Surjit who informed me about mine. With a SG of almost 9,i was more than satisfied with my results...the feeling was supplemented after i came to know that i came 3rd in my branch which just reaffirmed my belief of changing my branch....post first year....Then i came to know about the results of my batch-mates who had done pretty awesome as well...Chandan scored 9.75...i was amazed..i had interacted with him on quite a few occasions in the class, but didn't find anething strikingly intelluctual about him.....Maan....i cant even sense it....:(
A few girls in my group(the great D3 group) had also scored heavily( Supriya Maam asked us our SG's in d lab) and now i was a bit apprehensive regarding change of branch.....the second sem had the dreadful & ominous Basic Electronics in store.....Fingers Crossed....
The next month and a half was celebration time in d college as we were staging our cultural and sports fest and i had a great time....sitting at home and not attending them.....:)
Then came the second semester and i did awful this time around.Got 8.43 in it and was almost sure of wobbling up the oppurtunity of changing branch with this dreadful performance....still bothered to chk each & every result of my branch with a tinge of hope still lingering on....the chances seemed too bleak though.
Gaurab was the clear frontrunner....Piyush had done very well in d first sem, another girl had also been running neck to neck. But Luck had something else in store,Gaurab had consolidated his peak position....some Srikanth had come from nowhere to take the second position(hadn't counted him as a threat),the girl had a deficit of 0.02 from me and HURRAY!!! Piyush had a back..sorry, got a bit too carried away.Right then, i had the coveted third position and was hence eligible for change of branch.
The rest as they say is History:)
